The Bride wore Yellow

I love seeing more and more unique wedding dresses pop up over the web. This, of course, is a Vera Wang but you still gotta give the girl some credit for not wearing white and having a giant flower plastered on her chest that still managed to look good. Can this dress be cut short and I wear it as a bridesmaid dress? With the teal cardigan? Please? To your wedding? Thanks.

"Ooh, would love this especially as we're coming up on our first wedding festivity: an engagement party. Cute picture cards would make it a bit more fun to motivate. Fingers crossed -- thanks!"

Congrats Becky! Uprinting should be contacting you soon with details!

Today our wedding was also featured on Offbeat Bride, a site that saved our sanity when my guy and I were planning our wedding. I love that website, and I'm excited they chose our wedding to feature! Thanks Offbeat Bride and hardworking Interns!

!!!!!!

I ordered a Canon 5D Mark II yesterday. I'm so. freaking. excited. For those of you that aren't involved in the camera geek world, this camera is amazing. The older 5D is a classic beauty but the Mark II blows my socks off. And it's mine. Well, in transit mine.

I have no idea what Canon camera this image is from, but I can't wait to capture moments like this. From Platt Photography.

P.S. There's still time to enter the overnight giveaway- open until midnight tonight Eastern time!

Weekend Catchup

Hope you all had a great weekend! It was busy weekend of work for me, but with only working half days I had the rest to enjoy with my boy. Asheville was buzzing with the energy of having Obama in town for a family vacation. I ended up spending some time with the CNN media crew that was in town and had fascinating conversations with them about America and the media. It helped restore my faith in the human race to see that there were good and honest people behind the scenes, doing what they could in small ways to make a difference. Very nice to see that it's all not just an evil conspiracy. I also met Antonio Pompa-Baldi, an insanely good pianist that was a guest for the Asheville Symphony this past weekend. My gosh that man can play the piano and to boot he's a super nice guy. He was kind enough to comp Evan and I tickets so we could dress up for a date night and enjoy some amazing music, something we need to do more often. Hopefully in the future I'll have some more exciting news about that chance meeting and my photography.

These next few weeks will be exciting for August and After, I'll be hosting my first ever giveaway soon and putting the finishing touches on my portfolio website that will be going live shortly. In the meantime I wanted to share a love session I came across taken by Kelly Hornberger. You may have seen some of her engagement pictures featured before, but this one she recently took of a couple with the theme of cowgirls and cowboys caught my attention. You can find more at her blog via here. Thanks to {AllYouNeedisLove} for bringing them to my attention!

Hope you all have had a great start to the week and avoided a case of the Mondays. If not, maybe thoughts of frilly dresses, cowboy boots, and sunny fields will cheer you up!

Not your average greeting card.

I love these, and I know quite a few people that would respond to them very well. And also quite a few who wouldn't. Found via {Foxy Blunt}.
I love you, lucky bastard.

I'm Selling my Dress *SOLD*

I'm selling my wedding dress. I've struggled with the decision of whether or not to keep it since after our wedding last August. I always wonder if in 25 years down the road when my own daughter is getting married if I'll regret not having this amazing beauty of a gown to pull out and show her. But what it really boils down to is living day to day. What if I don't even have a daughter? I got to wear this amazing dress on my wedding day, a dress I almost couldn't afford, and it made the day more perfect because it. What do I gain from keeping that from another woman? Another woman that is just as much in love with her man that I am with mine, who's wanting to feel as beautiful as she possibly can for the day she marries him?

I'd really like to share my joy. The dress will best fit a woman who is about a size 6, height of 5'8" +/- a few inches, with a B-C cup. My price is $800. Please email me for details at augustandafter{at}gmail.com.

Barbie Doll Wedding Days

Regarding the discussion of beauty and blogs, don't these pictures below resonate with what we were all ripping our hair out about? I feel like I've been looking at these same images a lot lately. All over. the. place. BUT, as my sister tries to encourage me to do, I need to remember how to find the inspiration in any wedding like I could when I was engaged and thrilled to get fresh new ideas from any source I could.

Still, come on... leaving some room for error in a wedding is what makes it fun! And keeps you and everyone around you sane. So to Barbie and Ken weddings... I'm really done with you for awhile.

Small Business Love: Figs and Ginger

If you've been a reader of my blog you know I do weekly features called Etsy Love, where I take an Etsy artist who's work I've come across or been shown and share it with all my readers. Today I'm starting another feature called Small Business Love. For the next few months I'll be pulling small business locally and nationally to share with you, featuring their products and story. If you're a small business or know of one you'd like to see get involved, I'd love for you to shoot me an email.

To start it out, I've found the perfect little local company called Figs and Ginger.

When Evan and I moved to Asheville last winter, one of our first introductions to the local art community was The Big Crafty, a huge get together of indie crafters along with good music, food, and drinks. One of my favorite artists was Figs and Ginger, a husband and wife team that creates eco- friendly sterling jewelry inspired by the simple beauty found in forests, both imaginary and real. They got their start in the indie craft scene back in 2003 while selling their creations through their temporary brick-n-mortar shop, and by December 2006 were officially named and pumping out their creations.
This April they're running a great promotion: help the planet by planting a tree and receive a free piece of handmade jewelry in return. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, care to join me? Check out the details by clicking on the image above, visit their website, sign up to their email list for special deals, and pop over to their blog to say hi! They also travel around to crafter fairs and have stores that carry their products throughout the states, so make sure to check to see if they're coming to a place near you!

P.S. They also have really great mother's day gift ideas.

Springtime

I've been such a bad blogger this past week! Although I've done daily posts I've felt so disconnected and had such a lack of motivation... I don't want my lovely reader's suffering from boredom because my life has picked up speed! This winter has been so relaxed for me I've forgotten how to keep up with things. Must do better.

On another note, things are really looking up for both of us recently. Evan is really getting into his work and starting to enjoy it. He's moving now from the office to the great outdoors under the Asheville spring sunshine, so nothing can be better than that. I'll also be joining him, taking part in a really exciting photography position... a jump start into my photography career. I hope to soon have my portfolio up and running, so look for that in the future.

As it's getting warmer and warmer here, I'm realizing I'll need to dig out my Tucson clothes sooner than I thought. And what does each new summer call for? Well, psh*, definitely a new swimsuit. From Patagonia of course. And maybe a couple of their new summer dresses too.

Etsy Love: Sparklefire

I love this art. Created by the wire genius at Sparklefire, a newly discovered Etsy store of wire art and jewelry, some of which need to be in my home. Quickly.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and have some fun plans! Or at least have some time to rest, which is what I'm planning on doing after my early morning shifts. I'm getting used to being an early riser as long as I get my naps in, preferably weekend naps with my boy. See you on Monday!

The Bride Wore Blue

....and looked absolutely stunning. There's something about navy blue and gold tones, the same colors my sister glowed in for her moh dress. This bride rocked it. Can we please see more unique dresses? I'm getting so sick of seeing white.

*Not to offend those that are wearing white, there's nothing wrong with wearing exactly what you want to wear! The difference is wearing it because it is expected as a bride vrs wearing it because it's your dream dress.
